Abstract: Le foreste, che ricoprono il territorio regionale per oltre 255 mila ettari (oltre un terzo del totale) sono costituite da vari tipi di bosco.La banca dati delle Categorie Forestali (che trae origine da quella dei Tipi forestali del Friuli Venezia Giulia di cui costituisce un'aggregazione di livello superiore) è stata realizzata a cura dei tecnici forestali dott.for. Giuseppe Vanone (area montana) e dott.for. Gianfranco Dreossi (fascia collinare, submontana e Carso) fra il 1997 e il 1999 nell’ambito del progetto regionale finanziato dall’Unione Europea per la creazione di un Osservatorio e una Borsa del Legno regionali.
