Abstract: The RETRACE-3D geological model of the central Apennines (area affected by the 2016-2018 seismic sequence) consists of stratigraphic boundaries of geological units with homogeneous behavior and main faults of the area. This dataset is derived from the RETRACE-3D geological model, it includes the 3D geometries of six stratigraphic boundaries (pre-Triassic - Miocene) and of geometries of 47 faults pertaining to different fault systems. The horizons are described through the following semantically harmonized attributes: type_contact, age_min, age_max, evaluation_method, observation_method; the geologic units above and below each geometry are also indicated. The faults are described with mean geometric attributes, boolean attributes (active_fault, seismogenic_fault, capable_fault) and the semantically harmonized attributes: type_fault, evaluation_method, observation_method. This harmonization is based on the outcomes of the GO-PEG European project. The finalization of the harmonization process have been realized within the MEET project [funded by European Union - National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) - Mission 4, “Education and Research” - Component 2, “From Research to Business” – Investment Line 3.1, “Fund for the creation of an integrated system of research and innovation infrastructures” - Project Code IR0000025 - MEET].

Lineage: The geological model is the result of the RETRACE-3D project (https://doi.org/10.13127/retrace-3d/geomod.2021). It is based on the interpretation of a large dataset of seismic reflection lines and the integration with well data and constraints derived from surface geology. As a first step, a 3D time-domain model of horizons and faults was built, from which a set of 26 sections oriented E-W and NE-SW, spaced 5 km apart, was extracted. These sections were converted to depth using a velocity model based on homogeneous interval velocities for each reference stratigraphic unit. The converted sections were then integrated with geological cross-sections useful for detailing the area at the hangingwall of the Sibillini thrust, which is poorly covered by seismic lines. From these sections, the surfaces of horizons and faults that make up the final three-dimensional model were interpolated. The final surfaces were generated by sampling grids with a node spacing of 500 meters.
After the publication of the final 3D geological model, further activities have been realized in the MEET project to supplement geometries with semantically harmonized attributes, based on the outcomes of the GO-PEG European project.
